FAQ

Septic System

Are you licensed & insured?

Yes. We are licensed in the state of Missouri to install conventional gravity septic systems, as well as advanced systems. We are fully insured for septic and excavation services.

How does a septic system work?

In a basic gravity system, wastewater flows from the drains in your home to a tank, where the solids sink to the bottom and bacteria work to break them down. The remaining water flows out into your lateral lines, where it slowly percolates through the soil, treating the pathogens in the water before it reaches the water table.

Is there anything I shouldn't use with a septic system?

Yes. You should only flush items that are biodegradable, like toilet paper. Don't flush feminine hygiene products, wipes, etc. Limit the use of harsh chemicals, like bleach, that disrupt the bacterial flora of your tank.

Garbage disposals can also disrupt the beneficial balance of bacteria and send food waste down the drain that may clog pipes, lines, and filters.

How often should I have my septic tank pumped?

Some solids can't be broken down by bacteria and remain in your tank. We recommend having your tank pumped every 3-5 years.

Can I drive or build over my septic system?

No. You shouldn't drive over your septic tank or lateral field. Avoid building any structures or planting any deep rooted vegitation over septic system components.

What makes a septic system fail?

There can be many causes. Some include an undersized tank or lateral field that isn't designed to accommodate the amount of water flowing to the system, flushing items that aren't able to be broken down in the septic tank, tree roots growing into lines that may be cracked or damaged, and damage caused to components of the system by driving over them.
